Gold Rush Night Orienteering
great time at Night 'O' on Saturday 5th May 2012,
At the night Orienteering held at Red Hills near Chinese Camp we were lucky enough to have the biggest moon of the year and clear skies. 29 orienteers tackled the course. Even with a bright moon you have to use your headlamp to read the map and then, without time to let your eyes become accustomed again, you have to use your headlight to move. So, unfortunatly the romantic idea of travelling by moonlight doesn't happen. Even so everyone had times when they dimmed their lights and enjoyed the moonscape. Dirty Avocadoes swept the course and had the fastest time so were the clear winners on points even though everyone who was out there felt they had won just by enjoying a great evening of natural beauty. Finishers were treated to a barbecue and camping before heading home on Sunday morning. Thanks to all who came out especially teh brave group of Girl Scouts..
