The 2016 Night 'O', night orienteering, event was an intermediate level event that is fun for more experienced competitors too. Orienteering clinic at 6:30pm. Check in 8:00pm to 9:00. Event starts at 9pm. Approximate 2 hour route. Map and event entry $20. A pre-marked map will be provided and a large number of trails will provide wide route choices. When you finish we will have a barbecue going and we can enjoy a get together.

The location is about an hour East of Modesto. The date is chosen as a full moon so that there will be some long distance terrain visibility.

You can run the event as an individual or in a team of any number. You will need hiking/running gear, a headlight and a compass. Maps will be handed out at the start. We will be able to give instruction to anyone who wants it. This is a great way to improve your skills. Come and compete and have fun. You can walk, hike or run depending on your enthusiasm and skill.

The event uses trails and checkpoints set up in the area of the Exchequer  Park.  The winning time is expected to be about 1 and a 1/2 hours for a fast team and 3 to four hours are allowed. Teams may choose to get as many checkpoints as they desire so the event is suitable for all levels.

Barbecue fixings and hot coals included. Barbie will be lit at 10. Bring your own choice of entrée.

Entry to Lake McClure at Barrett Cove is $8 per vehicle. Go to campsite M66 to checkin for the event.

To enjoy the full fun of the event, plan on camping over on Saturady night at one of the many nice campsites at Barrett Cove on Lake McClure. Camping can be booked by calling Marian with Merced irrigation District at 209 354 2954 and tell her you are with 'GoldRush'. The best times to call are Mon-Thur from 8am to 2 pm. The event will use campsite M66 so ask for a campsite near that (or far away if you want quiet!) for Saturday night the 16th April. Cost for a campsite is $22.oo. General information can be seen at Lake McClure camping.  Make sure you book at Barrett  Cove on McClure as other camp areas on lake McClure can be a long way away.

Direction to Barretts Cove: It is about 45 miles East of Modesto. Follow Highway 132 from Modesto through Waterford and La Grange and about 10 miles after La Grange you will come to the Don Pedro gas station and store. Go 1/4 mile more on the main road and then turn right on 'Merced Falls Road'. Follow 'Merced Falls Road' about 2 and a 1/2 miles to an intersection and turn left onto 'Barrett Cove Road' which leads 1 mile to Barretts Cove entrance station. Once inside, follow signs to the event location.

We also have orienteering clinics at various times depending on demand. Please email if you are interested in a clinic,. They are usually held at East La Loma park in Modesto.
