Team Gold Rush.

Gold Rush Adventure Racing is an adventure racing Organization involved in event promotion, training and racing. We are a small group of Adventure Racing enthusiasts from Modesto California who want to keep and expand the sport. To do that we promote events and training events in the Northern California area. Our core group have raced in many Adventure Racing events around the world for over 25 years and also taken part in many outdoor sports. (see Team Gold Rush History). We are the oldest and most experienced group of racers and event promoters on the west coast.

We have hosted the Gold Rush Mother Lode adventure race as part of the AR World Series and as the North American Championship event. We have held NAARS and USARA and NAARS sanctioned events. We are known for spectacular courses set in the world class terrain of Northern California.

Introductions

Here are brief introductions to our core group.

Adrian 'Ados' Crane

Founding Member and Organizer.

Everyone should be giving back to their sport. After running, climbing, biking and boating for many years, and enjoying the hell out of it, Ados is keen  to encourage others by creating events where people can experience the thrills, challenges and satisfactions that he has been lucky enough to experience. Wherever you are in the world, natures scenery is spetacular and beautiful, but we here in Central California feel that our particular brand of natures bounty , the Sierra Nevada and foothills, is a world class setting that we want to share with others.

Mark Richardson

Course director and dynamo

Mark is the primary course designer for Gold Rush events. After being a competitive track cyclist where the navigation was very easy; left, left, left, left, he took up adventure racing in which the navigation is anything but. After several adventure races including Primal Quests  and Gold Rushes, Mark joined the Gold Rush team and parlayed his many trips into the Sierras into AR courses. Creating an AR course is a long term endeavour pulling together knowledge from years past and recent trips along with google earth and map reasearch. Mark loves the original 'expedition race' concept and regularly vetos any mickey mouse suggestions.

Deborah Steinberg

Design Guru and Cheerleader.

Deborah Steinberg is the original Unintentional Adventurer.  She was always into the outdoors, backpacking, trail running, etc, but she started hanging out with the wrong crowd who talked her into all sorts of fun and daring adventurous activities by telling her that she was capable.  Pretty soon, thanks to Adrian Crane, Ray Kablanow, Carey Gregg, and Ryan Swehla she was summiting all of the peaks in California over 14,000 ft.  She found out that hanging out with guys and gals of Gold Rush was helpful to train for these mountaineering trips, and discovered new loves for mountain biking, road cycling, kayaking, rock climbing, and long distance running.  Deborah is an optometrist at Sylvan Eye Associates in Modesto, and answers a lot of questions about her adventurous lifestyle during eye exams, since  it has rewarded her with awesome photos to hang in her examination rooms.  Deborah is married with two children, and lives in Modesto, California.  Deborah helps Gold Rush Adventure Racing by designing the flyers, T-shirts, Banners, and awards for the races.

Carey Gregg

Dedicated volunteer and organizer.

Carey just works hard. He has a lot of experience in adventure racing, ultra-running and running and has both raced and volunteered in them all. He turns up willing to do whatever is asked of him.

Catherine Conrad-Saydah

Our SoCal rep and social media coordinator.

Catherine has an extensive AR resume after she moved from triathons in search of the real outdoors. She moved to California from New York and bought lots of enthusiasm and AR experience as both a racer and volunteer.

Carl Sufit

Our medical coordinator and voice of reason.

Dennis Baker

Mountain Biker, Amateur Photographer, Web Guy, Adventure Lover, Ogre.

Elisa Reisch Chastaine

Marketing whiz and people person.
